One step at a time, KG Well we played our second game in two days, and it was another loss. It was a very close game though. We were up by 2 points at half time, before we threw the game away. We lost 21-31 in the end. We're so turnover prone; travelling, throwing the ball away, 3-in-the-key, you name it. Our record is now 0 wins and 4 losses. Depressing. But the great news is that today's best player was also our youngest player; the 6'1" kid I was talking about early. He's only 15 or 16 years old. I told him to take more shots and he ended up scoring half our team's points, mostly off pull up floaters from about 10-15ft. He's a great defender. Reminds me of a passive Rasheed Wallace. Needs to be more aggressive. We played much better defense too. We have a big fat center (about 6'2") who is great at setting screens but never gets any blocks (he's the Brad Miller of our team, without the jump shot). I replaced him with another player of a similar height who has great athleticism and goes for blocks. I really liked what I saw from him today. Reminds me of a Chris Andersen type of player. We have a practice after school tomorrow, so I'm going to try some of the things that have been suggested in this thread. As you can tell, not only am I working every hour under the sun towards my PGCE (teacher training course at Oxford University), but also dedicating myself to the basketball coaching. Only two weeks until I leave this school Gutted. I'd love to stay forever. The kids want me to stay too. Just gotta kill off some teachers and steal their jobs

Our record is now 0 wins and 4 losses. Depressing. Just rebuild via the draft.

^I know what you meant right there, but it sounds SO completely wrong in the context of you teaching at a middle school.
I want my intramural team to run the 1-4 High next year. I don't fully understand it, but I love the backdoor cutting possibilities.
Make sure you focus on rebounding. It's a skill a lot of kids do not work on or care about. Height and athleticism helps, but your players can get tons of boards just off of effort and positioning.

Trying to run a 1-4 high with an intramural team sounds like it could be disastrous, haha.

Trying to run any set offense with an intramural team would be a waste of time.
